The Opportunity

We're seeking an experienced finance domain expert to join our team as an Actuarial Analyst. This unique role bridges the gap between complex financial planning requirements and technical product development. You'll be instrumental in designing, coding, testing, and validating sophisticated financial modelling tools that will transform how Australians engage with their financial future.

Collaborating closely with software engineers and domain experts in financial planning and wealth management, ensuring our products deliver accurate, compliant, and user-friendly capabilities.

Key Responsibilities

Financial Modelling & Design (40%)

  • Design and document sophisticated cashflow modelling tools for retirement planning, contribution strategies, and investment scenarios
  • Develop comprehensive test cases for financial calculations including tax implications, government benefits, and regulatory requirements
  • Create detailed specifications for complex financial scenarios including transition to retirement, downsizer contributions, and pension phase calculations
  • Validate modelling outputs against industry benchmarks and regulatory standards

Business Analysis & Coding (30%)

  • Translate complex financial planning requirements into clear, actionable user stories
  • Write code alongside software engineers 
  • Create detailed acceptance criteria that ensure technical implementations meet financial planning standards
  • Document business rules for calculations, tax treatments, and regulatory compliance

Quality Assurance & Audit Support (20%)

  • Support external audit processes for financial modelling tools and calculations
  • Develop and maintain comprehensive testing documentation for regulatory compliance
  • Conduct thorough testing of financial calculations across multiple scenarios and edge cases
  • Ensure all modelling tools meet ASIC regulatory guidelines and professional standards

Stakeholder Collaboration (10%)

  • Partner with the Chief Product Officer to prioritise feature development based on client needs and regulatory requirements
  • Collaborate with software engineers to ensure accurate implementation of financial logic
  • Work with compliance teams to ensure all tools meet regulatory requirements
  • Provide subject matter expertise to UX designers creating financial planning interfaces

Essential Qualifications & Experience

Education & Certifications

  • Bachelor degree accredited by the Actuaries Institute of Australia

Technical Competencies

  • A passion for technology with exposure to coding
  • Strong understanding of cashflow modelling with stochastic models
  • Application of optimisation techniques
  • Ability to engage with details of tax and social security
  • Ability to engage with legislation and regulatory frameworks, such as those relating to the provision of advice
  • Ability to communicate technical details clearly in written form
  • Strong collaboration skills

Desirable Skills & Attributes

Technical Skills

  • Experience with data analysis tools and financial modelling software
  • Understanding of API integrations and data flows
  • Experience with Python or Rust
  • Exposure to software development practices such as Kanban or Scrum
  • Familiarity with AWS, Jira, Confluence, or similar tools

  • Exceptional analytical and problem-solving abilities
  • Outstanding written and verbal communication skills
  • Ability to translate complex financial concepts into simple language
